A £500,000 investment will revamp a Sheffield leisure centre next month, offering exciting new facilities for fitness enthusiasts.

Hillsborough Leisure Centre, run by award-winning leisure operator Everyone Active in partnership with Sheffield City Council, will undergo a major refurbishment from Monday 17 November until early

December to modernise its gym facility – with the project funded by Everyone Active.

A refurbished group cycle studio equipped with state-of-the-art Keiser M3i bikes forms part of the improvements, alongside new cardio equipment including treadmills, cross trainers and rowing machines.

New resistance training equipment being introduced includes the latest Olympic flat and incline benches with weight storage, dumbbells up to 60kg, shoulder and linear leg press machines and premium plate-loaded equipment.

The gym at the centre will also benefit from fresh new décor, improvements to free weight areas and a new dedicated recovery space to provide opportunities for the local community to focus on their wellbeing.

The investment in Hillsborough Leisure Centre follows a £750,000 refurbishment project at The English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EISS) and Concord Sports Centre in August and September, in addition to a £110,000 makeover to the gym facility at Heeley Pool and Gym in June.

Everyone Active contract manager, Phil Bowers, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be investing in the future of Hillsborough Leisure Centre, which is much-loved by the local community. This £500,000 refurbishment represents our shared commitment with Sheffield City Council to creating high quality, accessible spaces that support the health and wellbeing of residents in the city.

“Together, we’re ensuring that local residents of all ages and abilities can enjoy state-of-the-art welcoming facilities for years to come. We can’t wait to show our members the transformation.”

Cllr Kurtis Crossthorn, Chair of the Communities, Parks and Leisure Committee at Sheffield City Council, said:

“This £500,000 investment in Hillsborough Leisure Centre is another significant step in our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of Sheffield’s residents. The modernised gym and new recovery spaces will ensure people of all ages and abilities have access to high-quality facilities that encourage active lifestyles and community connection.

“We’re delighted to continue our partnership with Everyone Active, building on recent improvements at EISS, Concord Sports Centre, and Heeley Pool & Gym. These upgrades reflect our ongoing dedication to making Sheffield’s leisure centres welcoming, inclusive, and fit for the future.”

The rest of the facility will remain open during the works and be unaffected by the gym closure, with group exercises and the pool still in operation.

During the refurbishment, Everyone Active members will be able to use other facilities in the city including Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EISS),

Concord Sports Centre, Heeley Pool & Gym and Springs Leisure Centre.
